Hey everyone! Sorry for last week’s absence, I did not have much to report as the week prior I was sitting my butt on the beach on a nice family vacation!
Last week was busy one and is leading up to another very busy couple of weeks! Let’s get into! I want to focus on a couple of the major events from last week that we got up to though as they really encompass how the week was.
Tom’s Watch Bar Frozen Four Watch Party
On Thursday evening, we were able to sneak out of the office early and head to downtown Minneapolis as guests of Tom’s Watch Bar!
The Frozen Four is the Final Four of college hockey and we are always excited to watch this tournament come April. Lucky enough, the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers were playing in the Frozen Four this year so we went to Tom’s to watch it!
We have been building a solid relationship with Tom’s Watch Bar as they are starting to grow and open up restaurants around the country. It was a great afternoon leading into the long weekend and the Gophers got the win to send them to the national championship! (More on that later…)
If you are looking for a fun new spot to watch the big game, check out Tom’s Watch Bar nearest you! (That sounded like an ad and I promise it wasn’t haha I just really like that place)
Marathon Training
As some of you may know, we have been training for Grandma’s Marathon in June for the past few months. First things first, after skating for 20+ years, I learned the hard way that hockey players are not meant to run long distances. It has been a grind but personally I am starting to feel much better on the paths thank goodness.
We had never trained together before as a full group so on the beautiful spring day Saturday in Minny, we got together in the morning and attempted to run a half marathon. 13.1 longgggg miles.
Not training for a marathon is for sure not advised by anyone, and running those miles on Saturday made me realize that even though I have stuck to the program and only have missed a couple of runs, I am still nowhere near ready for the race in June. I could not imagine doing that run a second time without stopping! But that’s why we train I guess!
Running with a group made Saturday morning so much better. Lawsy, Yelle, my high school friend Parker, and myself took on the daunting task and did it together! We could not have asked for a better day because it was a gorgeous sunny and 60 degrees out.
We got the run done with no injuries, lots of fun, and a killer workout. We only ran at about a 9:45-10:00 minute minute per mile pace but that will be perfect for when race day comes around. Slow and steady wins the race!
I am looking forward to more group training together and hopefully a few runs wherever we are these next couple of weeks! (No spoilers!)
Thank you all for reading this newsletter and I appreciate the support as always. I hope you have a great week ahead and enjoy some nice weather wherever you are!
Cheers,
-WB
